BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND
Following the huge success of their inaugural event last
year, Bondi2Berry – Ride to Remember will be back on
9 September as part of Dementia Awareness Month.
In 2016 organisers Nick, Pierre and James decided to use
their passion for cycling to raise awareness of dementia and
put together a 155km cycling event between Bondi and Berry.
The event was a remarkable success, with Alzheimer’s
Australia ambassador Ita Buttrose in attendance to see
off the 40 participating bike riders, including former Prime
Minister Tony Abbott and Reidy from Bondi Rescue.
This year there will be two groups taking on the stunningly
beautiful but challenging route between Bondi and Berry,
with a third group starting from Sutherland, which is a
120km ride to Berry. Each group will have support vehicles
and there will be bike mechanics positioned en-route. There
will also be three pit stops where riders will be invited
to refuel with a variety of nutritional food and drinks.
The goal for the 2017 Bondi2Berry – Ride to Remember
is to raise more than $75,000 to go towards finding a cure
for dementia. Thanks to the support of event partners, all
expenses and event costs will be covered so that 100% of
funds raised will be donated to Alzheimer’s Australia NSW.
“I couldn’t have been more impressed with this group;
from the initial planning of their inaugural event, it was
clear to see how passionate they were; I had no doubt they
would make it a huge success,” says Emma Jackson-South
from the Alzheimer’s Australia NSW fundraising team.
“Every supporter had their own personal reason for getting
behind the event, and it has been wonderful to see how
proactive they have been about making a difference to a
cause that is so close to their hearts,” Emma says.

PUT YOUR THINKING
Alzheimer’s Australia NSW is once again
encouraging people to make use of its Thinko! games
and trivia packs to host fundraising trivia competitions.
Thinko! packs are filled with brain teasers, questions
and challenges, and the funds aised from all Thinko!
events will go towards supporting people affected
You can encourage participants to pay an entry fee,
add ‘fines’ for cheating or offer players the chance to buy
clues to help them beat other teams. In addition there
is a full set of collateral available to support your trivia
night including coasters, balloons, t-shirts and trophies.
Most of the Thinko! content has been provided by
Lovatts – Australia’s largest producer of crosswords and
puzzles – with input from Alzheimer’s Australia staff.
